Steven Robert Spencer

January 16, 1950 — December 31, 2022

     Steven Robert Spencer, the son of Robert and Shirley (Peterson) Spencer, was born January 16, 1950, in Carroll, Iowa and died December 31, 2022, at the Adventist Health Rideout in Marysville, California at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 15 days.


     Steven attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1968. During High School Steven was employed at Bud’s DX Station where he learned auto repair. He continued to work there following graduation until December of 1968 when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

 

     Before he reported for duty, he was united in marriage to Jackie Nelson. They were blessed with two daughters Tamara and Annette. During his tour of duty, he served as an instrumentation technician. He flew numerous missions and had been stationed in Vietnam and many other areas in southeast Asia. In 1985 he was honorably discharged. Steve attended college and graduated with a degree in electronics. He was employed by M & M Electronics and worked as a High Voltage electrician and installed lighting for many new housing developments until he retired in 2010 due to his failing health.


     Steven was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. In his younger years, he was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. Steven was a member of IBEW 1295 Union a proud supporter of the NRA, Steven loved to attend the flea markets and was an avid collector. He was an animal lover and enjoyed helping his daughters and grandchildren with their 4H projects. But one of his proudest moments was being a lifelong member of the West Audubon Gang.


     Steven was preceded in death by his parents; and his faithful companion Sammy.


     Survivors include his daughters Tamara and husband Bob Gaschke of Browns Valley, California and Annette and husband Jack Irwin of Wheatland, California; his grandchildren Kaitlyn Irwin of Marysville, California, Cara Irwin of Sutter, California and Matthew and wife Sarah Walz of Benton, Arkansas; his great grandchildren Decland and Sailor Walz both of Benton, Arkansas; his special cousin Barry Turner of Sacramento, California: Jackie and husband Dale Marquart of Marysville, California; his aunt Betty Marquardt of Missouri Valley, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.


     The family will meet with friends Tuesday afternoon January 17, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Tuesday afternoon, January 17, 2023, at 2:15 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Kirk Wiges, Charles Hansen, Frank Jorgensen, Steve Stetzel, Tom Klever and Rod Benton.
