Taick Chad Berger

August 23, 2002 — May 14, 2022

Taick Chad was born on August 23rd, 2002, in Des Moines Iowa at a whopping 8 1bs 5 oz and quickly amassed numerous nicknames including Tai, Taters, Tater Tot and Bug, to name a few. He was an inquisitive little kid with a wicked sense of humor that wanted to know how everything worked and loved bugging his "Sissy” Timarie. He enjoyed cruising around on his power wheels gator and as he grew so did his interest in all things military. He was going to be a Marine! Life changed dramatically in September 2011 when Tai was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Mom and Tai learned all they could about Diabetes and did everything possible to get his under control. The Summer of 2012 was the first year Tai went to Camp Hertko Hollow for children with Diabetes. He found his happy place being around others like him and spent a week every summer at camp building bonds and having a blast! The ride home was always filled with stories of things he did and the friends he made. It didn't take long for Tai to shoot up and stand over Sissy, a fact he mentioned to her frequently! While Mom would have loved for him to play sports, it was a bit difficult with the Diabetes. Tai tried Warrior Football and Baseball in grade school and eventually ended up playing High School Golf. His activity of choice was video games! You could always find him with a controller in his hands and a head set on his head. He played online and cultivated many friendships through the power of the internet. Taick graduated from Audubon High School with the class of 2021. He just finished his first year at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs where he was attending classes for Auto Technician (which was probably a good thing since his vehicles were always broke down). Taick passed away at the young age of 19 years, 9 months on Saturday, May 14, 2022 after another battle with Diabetes complications.

Family members who welcomed him home include his Great Grandma Bev, (Great) Uncle Chad, (Great) Aunt Jeri, Great Grandpa Pap and Aunt Jeanette along with other cherished family.

Taick is forever loved and survived by his Mom Brandi LaFoy and Nick Weihs of Audubon, Sister Timarie LaFoy and Blair Workman of Altoona, Grandma (Beebe) Julie of Altoona, Aunt Natalie and Lavina Hernandez of Le Mars, Cousins Kieresten, Khiah, Diego, Olivia and Sebastian, Aunt Ashlee Colebank of Cedar Rapids, Cousins Dominic, Zander, Braidyn, Justice and Sopheeah, Grandpa Randy and Penny LaFoy of Audubon, Aunt Ashley Hartl of Audubon, Cousins Kenna, Kylee, Karly and Kalli, Aunt Stephanie and Steve Snyder of Manning, Cousins Madelyn, Eian, Weston, and Ivy, Uncle Brandon LaFoy and Steve of San Diego CA, Great Grandpa Bill Fancher of Audubon and so many more family and friends.

Open Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 24th from 10:00am to 4:00pm with family present from 4pm to 6pm when a prayer service will be held at 6pm at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Taick will be cremated and reside with his Mom so no graveside services will be conducted.

Taick would love to help other kids with Tl Diabetes experience the joys of camp so please direct any memorials to Camp Hertko Hollow. A donation page can be found on their website at www.camphertkohollow.com or the family would be happy to pass the donation along for you.

On behalf of all of us that loved Tai, we appreciate all the prayers, condolences and donations made. Our hearts are heavy but each of you have given the family a little bit of peace. Hug your loved ones often!
