Terry Eugene Schmidt

    Terry Eugene Schmidt, the son of Duane Eugene and Lois Janet (Blair) Schmidt, was born April 17, 1958, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa and died March 3, 2023, at the Friendship Home in Audubon surrounded by his family and the loving care of St. Croix Hospice at the age of 64 years, 10 months, and 16 days.

Terry was baptized May 25, 1958, and confirmed December 1, 1974, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Terry began his education in Hamlin, Iowa and later transferred to the Exira Community Schools. He then received a certificate of completion from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1980. Following graduation, he started working with Cass Incorporated.

    Terry lived at home for several years and commuted to work every day, then he moved to a Group Home in Atlantic, Iowa. He also helped on the weekends at the Ready mix. Later he moved into his own apartment in May of 2004. Terry worked for Cass Incorporated until he retired and moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in January of 2022.

    Terry had blind faith and trust in God. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Terry was very sociable and was the Chamber Ambassador in Atlantic for Cass Incorporated. He played basketball and was on team “Speedy Green”. Terry enjoyed going to Camp Sunnyside many summers. Terry and his father loved to drive up to Lake View, Iowa and spend time at their cabin at Blackhawk Lake. Terry loved to swim and for boat rides, Terry never knew a stranger and had trust in everyone. Terry was a die-hard Iowa State University fan and loved to converse with his brother-in-law Gary Fancher about all the players and finer points of the games. He loved parties of all sorts and especially enjoyed getting an Iowa State present of some type. Terry loved his family and lived life to the fullest.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, Duane and Lois Schmidt; his brother-in-law Gary Fancher, and his nephew Michael Schmidt.

    Survivors include his special friend Christina Cheney of Dubuque, Iowa; his siblings Joan “Joni” Fancher and Dan and wife Christine Schmidt all of Audubon, Iowa and Dean and wife Julie Schmidt of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his nieces and nephews Brooke and husband Jerod Burns of Brooklyn, Iowa, Justin and wife Katy Fancher of Grimes, Iowa, Cara and husband Brad Whipple of Ankeny, Iowa, Ben and wife Jenny Schmidt of Polk City, Iowa, Alli and husband Sam Erdahl of Elkhart, Iowa, Brad Schmidt and Beth Henderson and Leslie and husband Matthew Thomas all of Urbandale, Iowa, Taylor Roseboom and Nick Wenger of Ankeny, Iowa; 15 great nieces and great nephews; other relatives and many friends.

    The casket bearers will be Ben Schmidt, Brad Whipple, Sam Erdahl, Jarod Burns, Justin Fancher, Brad Schmidt, Matthew Thomas and Nick Wenger.
