Timothy Lyn Nielsen

December 13, 1967 — January 23, 2024

Timothy Lyn Nielsen, the son of Marvin and Laurel (Beeson) Nielsen, was born December 13, 1967, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa and died January 23, 2024, at the Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 56 years, 1 month, and 10 days.

In his youth, Tim was baptized as a member through the Merrill’s Grove Baptist Church in rural Audubon County. He attended school through Irwin Community Schools and graduated in the class of 1986. After high school, Tim studied communications at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Post college, Tim returned home and helped local farmers grow row crops and raise livestock. Additionally, Tim had a brief stint as a disc-jockey for KNOD radio station which he enjoyed. Later, Tim became employed at Mutual of Omaha. He thoroughly enjoyed this work and eventually became a Senior Account Executive.

For hobbies, Tim loved music as this gave him an outlet to provide joy for others and for himself. Through this love of music, Tim eventually became a member of the band “Phoenix Rising” and played shows locally. As time went on, Tim would eventually partner with a former Irwin Alumni and good friend, Jay Hanson, to create the band “Wild Turkeys.” Tim and Jay played at the Lounge in Harlan and several other venues. In addition to music, another hobby that Tim enjoyed greatly was racing. This included watching races in person at various speedways, participating in a NASCAR ride along, racing figure 8’s, and watching the yearly Daytona 500 with family members. Additional joyous hobbies for Tim included interior design-including designing the entire interior of his home as it was being built, spreading humor with friends and family, and spending time with animals via caretaking of friend’s and family’s animals.

Tim was preceded in death by his father Marvin Nielsen his grandparents, and a great nephew Griffin Nielsen.

Survivors include his mother Laurel Nielsen of Audubon. Iowa; his siblings Steve and wife Julie Nielsen of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Jim and wife Jody Nielsen of Ocala, Florida, and Mark and wife Helene Nielsen of Gothenburg, Sweden; his nieces and nephews Jerod and wife Abbie Nielsen of Schleswig, Iowa, Lindsey Nielsen of Lake View, Iowa, Alyssa Nielsen of New Haven, Connecticut, Lex Nielsen of Salem, Oregon, Bailey Nielsen and Elina Nielsen both of Sweden; his great nieces and nephews Carter Nielsen, Addie Nielsen, and Kinnick Nielsen all of Schleswig, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
