Velmo G. Andersen

Velmo Gwendolyn Andersen, the daughter of Lloyd T. and Minerva Rabson Graham, was born March 12, 1914, at her parents home in Exira, Iowa and died January 28, 2011, at the Hillcrest Health Plaza in Bellevue, Nebraska at the age of 96 years, 10 months, and 16 days.
As a small child, Velmo, moved to Audubon, Iowa with her parents. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Velmo attended Audubon Community Schools and graduated from the Audubon High School. An only child, Velmo loved her many friends, swimming, reading, tennis, golf and needlework while growing up. After graduation, she was employed at the local dress shop in Audubon.
On July 11, 1935, she was united in marriage to Manuel Andersen at the Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Vail, Iowa. Five daughters were born to this union. Velmo was a devoted homemaker and mother and helped Manuel on the farms in Douglas and Lincoln Townships in later years. The family belonged to Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. Many happy years were spent on the farm, rearing children and enjoying the friendship of extended family and friends. Velmo and Manuel retired from farming in 1979 and purchased a home in Manilla, Iowa. After Manuels passing on January 22, 2003. Velmo moved back to Audubon, rejoined the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed living at the Third Avenue Apartments. She loved the many visits from friends and family, especially the monthly Slumber Parties she hosted for her daughters. She kept busy embroidering and quilting. Due to declining health, Velmo moved to Omaha, Nebraska in the fall of 2010 to be closer tofamily.
Velmo was preceded in death in addition to her husband Manuel, by her son-in-law Frank Krueger; her parents; and Manuels parents Chris and Vernal Andersen.
Survivors include her daughters Jean and husband Wayne Sander of NewHampton, Iowa, Evelyn Turk of Waukee, Iowa, Kay Krueger of Holstein, Iowa, Leah and husband Don Peters of Ralston, Nebraska, and Betty and husband Daryl Bentson, of Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchild; Keely and husband Don Mueterthies of Lawler, Iowa and their children Bryan, Jason, Brenda and Jadeyn, Emily, Jeremy and Amanda. Mitch and wife Mari Turk of Sioux City, Iowa and his children Michelle, Danny, Adam, and Zachary, Mike and wife Debbie Turk of Bondurant, Iowa and their sons Jon and Sam, Karl Sander of Coolidge, Arizona and his sons Wayne and Grant, Kevin Sander of Minburn, Iowa, Matthew and wife Pamela Turk of Grimes, Iowa, Jodi and husband Corey Gillespie of Primghar, Iowa, Susan and husband Jeff Roemen of Cherokee, Iowa, Melisa and husband Chris DeWitt of LaVista, Nebraska and their daughters Haley and Emma,Ashley and husband Mark Witt of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The honorary casket bearers will be Keely Mueterthies, Jodi Gillespie, Susan Roemen, Melisa DeWitt, and Ashley Witt. The casket bearers will be Mitch Turk, Mike Turk, Matt Turk, Karl Sander, Kevin Sander, Don Mueterthies, Corey Gillespie, Jeff Roemen, Chris DeWitt, and Mark Witt.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Mrs. Barbara Christensen on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
