Vera V. Wahlert

June 24, 1910 — February 26, 2012

Vera V. Wahlert, the daughter of Jerry and Anna Petersen Josephsen, was born June 24, 1910, at her parent’s home in Audubon County, Iowa and died February 26, 2012, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 101 years, 8 months, and 2 days. Vera was baptized as a child and then later in May of 1964 was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She attended rural school near Greenfield, Iowa and then helped operate the family farm. On February 15, 1933, she was united in marriage to Ralph R. Wahlert at the Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Atlantic, Iowa. Three children John, Anna Jane, and David were born to this union. Vera helped operate their family farm in Greeley Township, Audubon County, Iowa. Later Vera was employed as a cook at the Valley Restaurant and also the Exira Care Center. They retired from farming but continued to live on the farm. Ralph died October 14, 1971. Vera stayed at the farm for a short time then moved into Exira where she became the first tenant at the Sunset View Apartments. She retired from cooking but continued to assist at the Exira Care Center. She was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Circle. Vera enjoyed traveling and also enjoyed going dancing with her good friend Harold C. “Pete” Hansen. Throughout her life, Vera thoroughly enjoyed cooking and celebrating the 4th of July and Christmas. Anytime Vera could spend with her family and friends made her smile. Vera lived in her own home until March of 2009 when she made her home with her daughter Anna Jane. Vera was preceded in death by her husband Ralph R. Wahlert; her son John Wahlert; a grandson Brett Tuey; her sons-in-law Chet Tuey, Jr. and Fred Martin; her parents; and her sisters and brothers Esther and husband George Hackwell, Mildred and husband George Winston, Carl and wife Ruth Josephsen, Harvey and wife Ann Josephsen, and Aldie Josephsen. Survivors include her children; Anna Jane. Martin of Exira, Iowa and David A. and wife Mona Wahlert of Ft. Morgan, Colorado; her grandchildren Chris and wife Wendy Tuey of Xichang, China, James “Bo” and wife Kerri Tuey of Ft. Morgan, Jeff and wife Julie Wahlert of St. Michael, Minnesota, Brad and wife Debbie Wahlert of Mitchellville, Iowa, Jason and wife Amy Wahlert of Prairie City, Iowa, and Chad Wahlert of Kersey, Colorado; her great grandchildren David Tuey stationed in Japan, Michael Tuey stationed in North Carolina, Kaitlyn Tuey of Littleton, Colorado, Cian Tuey and Cuinn Tuey both of Xichang, Sommer Bellender of Phoenix, Arizona, Shay Tuey of Greeley, Colorado, Jessica and husband Brent Elliott of Collins, Iowa, Meaghan Wahlert and Hannah Wahlert both of Mitchellville, Morgan Wahlert and Kaden Wahlert both of Prairie City; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
Friends may call at their convenience at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. The family will greet friends Friday morning March 2, 2012, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the Exira Christian Church in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyer on Friday, March 2, 2012; at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira,Iowa.
