Wanda Holly Flathers, the daughter of Louis and Annette Juhl Bengard, was born November 8, 1922, at her parents home in rural Audubon County near Exira, Iowa, and died November 13, 2010, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 88 years and 5 days.
Wanda attended the Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1940.
On May 31, 1941, she was united in marriage to Leonard Tiny Flathers in Maryville, Missouri. In September of 1941 Tiny was inducted into the U.S. Army. Wanda moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she was employed at the Ordinance Plant during World War II. Following the war Tiny was honorably discharged and they lived in Newton, Iowa for a short time before returning to the Exira area. For the next several years Wanda was a home maker helping raise their three children. Later she returned to work at the Egg Produce in Elk Horn, Iowa where she worked for several years. She was employed at the Blue Star in Atlantic, Iowa for a short time then worked at the Exira Bowl bowling alley for many years. Later Wanda was employed as a waitress/cook at the Valley Truck Stop until they closed and she decided to retire. During retirement, Wanda and Tiny enjoyed traveling across the United States. They especially enjoyed Arizona where they spent many winters. Tiny died May 16, 2003. Wanda has continued to enjoy and live in their home in Exira.
Wanda was preceded in death in addition to her husband Tiny were her son Craig Flathers; her parents; and her brothers and sisters Mickey, Jo Ellen, Lois, Ila Mae, Juhl Larry, and Elaine.
Wanda is survived by her children Pam and husband Roger Fowble of Brayton, Iowa and Wynn Flathers of Exira, Iowa; her daughter-in-law Linda Flathers of Brayton; her grandchildren Jeff Fowble and Athena Ybanez of Exira, Brett and wife Christine Fowble of Brayton, Joleah Shaw of Iowa City, Iowa, Craig Alyn and wife Tracy Flathers of Treynor, Iowa, Steve and McKenzie Flathers of Brayton; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; her sister and brothers Vadis Jensen and Terry and wife Hazel Bengard all of Exira, Jed Wendell Bengard of Dedham, Iowa; her sister-in-law Berniece Jensen of Adair, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Inurnment will be in the Exira Cemetery.
Service:
The graveside Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Vicar Rory Phillipson Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.
