William Dean Hollister

William Dean Hollister, the son of William Leland and Blanche (Hoyt) Hollister, was born December 2, 1935, at his parents’ home in rural Audubon County east of Audubon, Iowa and died May 17, 2015, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
Dean was baptized at the Church in Melville Center and later confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended rural school, Melville #5, and then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1954. On October 5, 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his tour of duty he was stationed in Germany and was an auto mechanic. He was honorably discharged on September 26, 1956, and returned to Audubon, Iowa. In 1957 Dean attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ag Business in 1962. He returned to Audubon and was employed at Lansman’s Seed Company.
On October 30, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary Campbell at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. One daughter Ann was born to this union. Dean continued to work for Lansman’s which became Cenex and later West Central. He was the Outside Operation Manager when he retired. After he retired he continued to work during the spring and the fall.
Dean was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, an avid Green Bay Packers fan and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his granddaughters.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robert and wife Doris Hollister; his aunts and uncles Mildred and husband Harold Farnham and Alice and husband Max Summers; his cousins Marvin Farnham, Charles Farnham, and Bonnie Farnham; his sister-in-law Rosanne and husband Harold Johnson; and his brother-in-law Arthur Campbell.
Survivors include his wife Mary Hollister of Audubon, Iowa; his daughter Ann and husband Tim Huegerich of Exira, Iowa; his granddaughters Morgan Huegerich and McKenzie Huegerich both of Exira, Iowa; his brother Glen and wife Arlette Hollister of Des Moines, Iowa; his nephews Mark and wife Christine Hollister of Des Moines, Iowa and Brian Hollister of Audubon, Iowa; his niece Debra and husband Mark Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa; 7 great nieces and great nephews; his sister-in-law June Campbell of Audubon, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Roger Claxton on Wednesday, May 29, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. Inurnment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa at a later date. The honorary casket bearers will be his nieces and nephews. The family will be meeting with friends Wednesday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. Memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon or the American Cancer Society.
