Alan LeRoy Williamson, 92, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Atlantic Specialty Care. He was born in Benton Township, Cass County on July 29, 1933, to LeRoy Henry and Clara Louise (Husmann) Williamson and joined three older siblings: Paul, Marilyn and Marjorie.
He attended country school before graduating from Wiota High School in 1951. While he was in high school, he would drive a school bus picking up students before heading to class each day.
He married his high school sweetheart, Marlis Claussen on October 4, 1953, at the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota. They were the last couple married in the old church and celebrated their reception in the basement of the current church. They then moved to Denver and for the next 50 years lived and worked there while raising their family which included their children Joetta and James. Alan was a long-time Denver Broncos fan and loved watching all kinds of sports on TV.
After Marlis passed away in 2001, Alan decided to move back to the Wiota area. So, in 2003, he built a new home on an acreage on Fairview Road between his sister-in-law, Nadine Williamson and nephew, David Williamson.
In his retirement, Alan created a cottage business, “Barnboards by Alan” where he made many wooden items from old barn boards that he sold at craft shows and at Picker’s Parlor. He was also one of the first employees of the Atlantic Wal-Mart and helped set out the merchandise in the new store.
Alan is survived by his son, Jim and wife Nancy Williamson of Westminster, CO, granddaughter, Laura and her husband, Sean Pigeon of Fort Worth, TX and his daughter, Joetta Williamson of Denver. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Nadine Williamson of Atlantic and many nieces and nephews and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Marlis’ parents, Art and Frieda Claussen; siblings: Paul Williamson, Marilyn (Wally) Hardenbergh and Marjorie (Chuck Manatt and Ray) Pasco; and nephew Bob Manatt.
The family is planning a visitation and graveside service for later this summer at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Anita, IA.
