Alton "Skip" Floyd Dale

October 10, 1932 — August 28, 2021

Alton “Skip” Floyd Dale, the son of Alton Elias and Nellie Mae (Kays) Dale, was born October 10, 1932, during a snowstorm at his parents’ home in Des Moines, Iowa and died August 28, 2021, at The Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 18 days.

Skip was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church in West Des Moines, Iowa. He attended School in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School with the Class of 1952. During his high school career, Skip was a star athlete where he played on the varsity football team since his freshman year and held several school records in track for over 50 years at the Drake Relays.

On September 8, 1952, he enlisted into the United State Navy. During his tour of duty he served on the Eldorado and when he was at port, he was stationed in Seattle, Washington. On August 21, 1956, he was honorably discharged and returned to West Des Moines where he was employed at Marquette Cement Manufacturing Company for a short time.

On June 9, 1957, he was united in marriage to Rosalind Jorgensen at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. They moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1959 for one year where Skip attended school for Culinary Arts and worked in the evenings at local restaurants in the area. In 1960, they moved back to Des Moines for a short time before making Audubon home to help Rosie’s parents on the family farm. In 1966, they purchased Skip’s Highway Café in Audubon which they owned and operated for 30 years before they sold the business and retired in 1996. During retirement Skip cooked at the T-Bone Club in Audubon and also helped his family on their farms.

Skip was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. He was also a member of the Dale Christensen VFW Post #4119 in Audubon and the Audubon American Legion Post #120. Skip loved anything to do with the outdoors whether it being a game of golf, fishing, or spending time in his yard. When he wasn’t able to be outdoors you could often find him reading, watching the news or enjoying his train sets in their basement. But most of all he cherished the time he got to spend with his family.
