Alvie Harry Bald, the son of Harry and Gladys (Jensen) Bald, was born September 12, 1932, on his parents’ farm in Cass County near Atlantic, Iowa and died November 2, 2019, at his home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 20 days.
Alvie was baptized at the age of 3 at his grandparent’s home in Audubon, Iowa. Later he was confirmed at the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He attended the Audubon Community Schools and the Audubon High School. Alvie worked at Jack McCort’s Restaurant and saved enough money to buy a car. He and a friend set out on an adventure, driving across the United States, stopping long enough to work to earn gas money along the way.
In December of 1951, he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force. During his tour of duty he served as a radar technician and was stationed at various bases across the United States. Alvie was honorably discharged in December of 1955 and returned to Audubon where he was hired by the Audubon County Engineer’s Office.
On November 2, 1958, he was united in Marriage to Sandra Rubel at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. They were blessed with three children Teresa, Pamela, and Brian. Alvie continued to work for Audubon County designing bridges for over 38 years until he retired in 1993. During retirement he loved to fish, play golf, and spend time with his siblings playing cards and reminiscing.
Alvie was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. He taught Sunday school for many years, served as Secretary and Treasurer on the Church Council, and was a Church Elder for many years. To Alvie family meant everything. He was always family oriented spending enjoyable time with them especially his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents Harry and Gladys Bald; his brothers and sisters: Mary Ann and husband Leroy Petersen, Elaine Bald, Darrell and wife Gail Bald, Delores Walters, Merlin Bald, Gary Dean Bald, and Judy Burns; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gloria and husband Virgil McGill, Al Rubel, and Leo and wife Elizabeth Rubel.
Survivors include his wife Sandra Bald of Audubon, Iowa; his children Teresa and husband Jon Schrader of West Salem, Wisconsin, Pamela Wetzel of Audubon, and Brian and wife Genise Bald of Papillion, Nebraska; his grandchildren: Jonathon Schrader, Brandy and husband Craig Oberreuter, Benjamin Schrader, Natalie Wetzel and her special friend Richie Beymer, Allison Schrader and her special friend Duane Howard, McKenzie and husband Bryan Elmquist, Samantha and husband Matt Banzhaf, Jordan and wife MacKenzie Bald, and Nolan Bald; 12 great grandchildren; his brother and sisters: Dallas and wife Dorie Bald, Karen and husband Wayne Heuss, and Connie and husband Marcel Fett all of Audubon; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gary and wife Sandy Walters of Atlantic, Iowa, Joyce Bald of Kansas City, Missouri, Joanne Bald of Audubon, Jack Burns of Glidden, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with friends Wednesday morning November 6, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Gordon Buchholz on Wednesday morning, November 6, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be Darin Bald, Mark Kruid, Guy Bald, Rick Bald, Tim Walters, Danny Bald, and Jeff Bald. The casket bearers will be Tony Rubel, Jeff Carey, Anthony Bald, Kevin Burns, Chad Heuss, and Jason Fett. Gifts in memoriam will be distributed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
