Anne M Peterson

Anne M. Peterson, age 87, of Anita, IA, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Caring Acres Nursing Home in Anita, IA.

She was born on February 3, 1937, to Thomas Murphy and Frances (Voss) Murphy. She grew up in rural Adair, Iowa, and graduated high school there in 1955. She married Richard Lee Peterson of Anita, Iowa, on February 4, 1958.

Together they have three children, daughter Teresa (Scott) Peterson-Smith of Boone Iowa, and sons Brian (Sandy) Peterson of Fairfield, Iowa and Bruce Peterson of Anita Iowa. Anne was primarily a Mom and farmwife her whole life.

She liked to play golf with the Wobblies once she retired. She very much enjoyed quilting, and she and Teresa made several quilts together, many hand-quilted. She enjoyed cooking and was particularly fond of making pies. Peach pies were her favorite. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Anita.

Preceding Anne in death are her husband, Richard; three sisters, Martha (Mikey) Huffman, Mary Ellen Miller, and Caroline Fairfield; and one brother, Joseph Murphy. She is survived by her three children.

Open visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Anita.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at United Methodist Church in Anita, IA. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon will be provided following the committal service in the fellowship hall of the United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Anita Library, Evergreen Cemetery, or the United Methodist Church in Anita in memory of Anne. They may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA 50022.
