Archie Turner, 80, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Archie was born January 20, 1926 in Rome, Missouri, the son of Claude and Diamia (Huffman) Turner.
The family moved to Iowa when Archie was a youngster, and he attended country schools in the Cumberland area.
He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy.
On June 7, 1968, Archie married Ramona Beth Anderson in Omaha, Nebraska.
Archie worked at the former Worthington Hatchery in Atlantic for 42 years.
He was known for raising and showing exotic chickens at various area chicken shows and was a member of the United Poultry Fanciers. Archie's favorite pastime was fishing.
Archie is survived by his wife, Beth of Atlantic, Iowa; a daughter, Murla Grosnickel and her husband, John of Des Moines, Iowa; his granddaughter, Lynn Baker of Dallas, Texas; a great-grandson, Jordan Baker of Washington State; his sister, Dorothy Christensen; his brother, Merle Turner, both of Atlantic, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Wayne Anderson and his wife, Eleanor of Bird Island, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Juanita Turner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Diamia Turner; six brothers, Harrison, Herman, Jess, Raymond, Freeman, and Willie Turner; and his parents-in-law, Lloyd and Alice Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2006 in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care, with Bud Lindeman officiating.
A fellowship and luncheon will be held in the Community Room at Hockenberry's, immediately following the service.
Cremation has taken place and no visitation is scheduled.
A private, family committal service and burial of ashes will be in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
The family is requesting that memorials be made to the Cass County Memorial Hospital Hospice, Atlantic, Iowa, in Archie's memory.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
