Barbara Stanley

Barbara "Barb" Stanley, 82, of Anita, Iowa, was called home to join the love of her life on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Caring Acres Nursing and Rehab in Anita IA.

Barb was born July 5, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, to John and Katherine (Merle) Hauser. She grew up in Michigan and graduated from high school there in 1950. Barb worked for the Gibson Refrigeration Company in Greenville, Michigan. She was married to Cortez G. Stanley, Jr. on June 14, 1952, in Entrican, MI. They moved to Anita from Greenville, MI in February 1964.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anita. Barb and Cortez ran the food pantry in Anita for many years. She was known as the Cookie Lady of Anita, was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, and enjoyed going for coffee with Cortez. They had received the Apple Award in Anita.

Preceding Barb in death were her parents; her husband, Cortez; and a son, Joseph Perry Stanley III.

Barb is survived by a daughter, Kathy (John) Fagan of Adair, IA; sons, Jim (Anne) Stanley of Elizabeth, CO, Alan (Earlene) Stanley of La Monte, MO and Rick (LuAnn) Stanley of Adair, IA; grandchildren, Bethany (Nick) Kintigh of Greenfield, IA, Matt (Monica) Fagan of Adair, IA, Jill (Jeremy) Ackelson of Des Moines, IA, Jenny (Tyson) Armstrong of Urbandale, IA, Katie (Nathan) Ohms of Perry, IA, Aubrey (Arthur) Weber of Loveland, CO, Dennis (Becky) Stanley of Johnstown, CO, Jamie (Derrik) DeWitt of Colorado Springs, CO, Jeremiah Stanley of Denver, CO, Jason Colt Stanley and fiancé Samantha Ash of Melbourne, FL, Jessica (Katie Dietzman) of Sedalia, MO, Heather (Carl) McCann of Newton, IA, Alice Pankonen and her fiancé Ryan Ray of Atlantic, IA, Adam Combs of Clinton, MO, Taylor and Devin Weir of La Monte, MO, and Tara Diana of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Paisley and Dax Kintigh of Greenfield, IA, Carley, Belle and Joseph Fagan of Adair, IA, Riley and Sawyer Ackelson of Des Moines, IA, Mac and Rawley Armstrong of Urbandale, IA, Chloe and Camden Ohms of Perry, IA, Cody and Andrina Weber of Loveland, CO, Riley Stanley of Johnstown, CO, Isabella, Selah and Gloriana DeWitt of Colorado Springs, CO, Greg and Derek McCann of Des Moines, IA, Bridgett Pankonen and Gavin Wetrich of Adair, IA, Spencer and Sally Ray of Atlantic, IA, Cody Combs of Windsor, MO and Kinley Combs of Clinton, MO, Jillianne Combs of Bettendorf, IA; one great-great-grandchild, Mercie Warner of Adair, IA.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 5, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Anita, IA, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA
