Barbara Uveling

Barbara Ann Ulveling, 71, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

She was born March 14, 1946, in Creighton, Nebraska, the daughter of James and Dorothy (Klosner) Casteel. Barbara grew up in Le Mars, Iowa, and graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in Le Mars in 1964. On May 2, 1966, she was united in marriage to John (Jack) Ulveling. To this union four children were born, John, Robert, Tamara and Laura.

Barb and Jack spent a few years moving around with Jack's employment. In December of 1976 the family moved to Atlantic, Iowa. Barb worked as a receptionist for Dr. Oehler from 1978 to 1986. Barb and Jack then opened and operated the Spirit Shoppe in Atlantic from 1987 to 1992. She then went back to receptionist work and was employed with Ed Anstey Law Firm from 1994 to 2001. Following Ed's death, Barb took some time off from working to watch her granddaughter, Kyra. She then went back to work at Wal-Mart shortly after it opened in Atlantic in 2003 and continued until 2014 when her health began to fail.

She always enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and other word puzzles. Barb also liked to pass the time with jigsaw puzzles and various handheld puzzles. Her greatest joy and love was spending time with her grandchildren and other family members. Barb was also entertained with playing card games with her sisters on Friday nights. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic.

Barb is survived by her children, John (Karen Lucas) Ulveling Jr. of Marshalltown, IA, Robert (Cindy) Ulveling of Atlantic, IA and Lori (Ken) Namanny of Cumberland, IA; her grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Ulveling and Kyra, Koby, Kipp and Kalynn Namanny, and Anthony Lucas; foster daughter, Tammy Neal and her daughters, Kylie and Alyssa Neal; her siblings, Pat (Steve) Casteel, Jacquelyn Casteel, Linda (John) Laughlin, Tom (Debbie) Casteel, Bill (Mary) Casteel, Mary (Gus) Abdallah, Suzanne Casteel, Donna (David) Andersen, Cathy (Tom) Hartkopf, Steve (Natalie) Casteel, John Casteel and Ann Hayes; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John (Jack) Ulveling; her parents, James and Dorothy Casteel; her parents-in-law; her daughter, Tamara Lynn Ulveling; her brothers, Jim and Larry Casteel; and her brother-in-law, Max Ulveling.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

In Lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial's to the family to be used per Barb's wishes at a later date.
