Berdine Chandler

Berdine Chandler, 85, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020, at the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa, after a long health battle.

She was born December 11, 1935, in Readlyn, Iowa, to Edwin and Marie (Richmann) Tiedt. Berdine attended school in Readlyn and graduated from Readlyn High School in 1954.

Berdine married Jimmy Chandler on March 15, 1959, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Readlyn, Iowa. They lived in Adair for 20 years. They then moved to Casey, where she lived until she became a resident of the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa.

She worked at several positions at the Adair Community Health Center.

Berdine was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair and a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Adair.
She was always active with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Berdine was famous for her sugar cookies. She loved to read, crochet, bake and was loved by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Marie Tiedt; her husband, Jim Chandler Sr; a brother, Wilbert Tiedt; and a sister, Edna Hoffman.

Berdine is survived by her children, John (Susan) Chandler of Illinois, Marie “Tina” (Bob) Gowey of Stuart, IA, Linda (John) Akers of Adair, IA, Connie (Dev) Jensen of Fontanelle, IA and Jim (Audra) Chandler Jr of Casey, IA; and many grand and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Dalmanutha Cemetery, rural Casey, IA.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be left to family’s wishes.

Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair, IA is in charge of the arrangements.
