Bernard V. Pardee

Bernard Vern Pardee, the son of Charles and Cecelia Martin Pardee, was born May 22, 1912, at his parents’ home in Greeley Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died October 9, 2011, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 99 years, 4 months, and 17 days. Bernard was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended rural school in Greeley Township then helped operate the family farm and helped other farmers. On April 29, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. During his tour of duty he saw action in the southwest and central pacific area. He was honorably discharged on September 25, 1945, and returned home where he was employed as a carpenter for Cozy Manufacturing in Exira, Iowa. On February 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ellowene Zinke Burkey in Atlantic, Iowa. They lived their entire married life in Hamlin, Iowa. Bernard continued to work for Cozy Manufacturing along with farming and raising cattle. In the early 1960’s he purchased a farm on the south edge of Hamlin. He worked for Cozy Manufacturing for many years then decided to farm full time. Ellowene died April 23, 1990. Bernard has continued to live on and operate their farm in Hamlin. Bernard was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. He was a member of Dale Christensen Post No. 4119, Audubon, V.F.W. and a member of the Audubon Post No. 120, American Legion. He enjoyed being able to work and one of his favorite hobbies was researching and trading stocks. Bernard was preceded in death by his wife Ellowene; his parents; his brothers Earl and wife LeMeda Pardee, Giles and wife Mildred Pardee, Ernest Pardee and Wayne Pardee; his sisters Grace and husband Lester Hagedorn, Irma and husband Eugene Conner, and Mary and husband Warrren Thompson; nephews Donald Pardee, William Pardee, Bernard Patrick Pardee, and Jamie Lewis; his nieces Marilyn Pardee, LaVonne and husband Ival Coe, Mary Colleen and husband Herbert Adams, and Jeanine Smaligo; her sisters-in-law Elvera and husband Russell Lewis and Annis and husband Floyd Zinke. Survivors include his sister-in-law Laura Pardee of Audubon, Iowa; nieces and nephews Robert and wife Virgie Pardee of Cleveland, Texas, Jack and wife Phyllis Pardee of Gouse, Texas, Conchetta Pardee of St. James, Missouri, Doris and husband Gifford Holt of Durango, Colorado, Joyce and husband Peter Knutsen of Bainbridge Island, Washington, Terry and wife Myrna Pardeeof LaCrescenta, California, Sr. Elaine Hagedorn, Mary Jo and husband Jim Reed all of Des Moines,Iowa, Sr. Marilyn Jean Hagedorn, Gloria and husband Don Sigler all of Kansas City, Missouri, Dwain and wife Carol Thompson of Exira, Iowa, Janice and husband William Ludwig of Shenandoah, Iowa, John Smaligo of Wilma, Oklahoma, Mary Lee Jensen of Exira, Iowa, Cheryl and husband Peter Huyek of Iowa City, Iowa, Ardyth and husband Lonnie Barber of Exira, Iowa, and Val Zinke of Colorado; numerous great nieces and great nephews special friends LaVerne and wife Kathy Strasser of Hamlin, Iowa and Jeff Munch of Exira, Iowa.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Father Emmanuel Agwuoke and Father Charles Pardee on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick\\\\\\\'s Catholic Church in Audubon,Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening at 6:30 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
