Bernice (Prall) Hupp, age 101, of Atlantic, IA, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Tabitha Journey Hospice House in Lincoln, NE.
Bernice Eleanor Prall was born on April 16, 1921, in Atlantic, IA, the daughter of Thaddeus Edmund and Elsie Luetta (Worth) Prall. She attended school in Atlantic but later received her GED from Hawkeye Institute of Technology in 1979. On November 18, 1943, she married Dr. Edward T. Hupp at the Methodist Parsonage in Lewis, IA.
Bernice worked for her husband, Dr. Hupp, and Dr. C.W. Blakesley, as a receptionist and dental assistant at their practice in Atlantic. After the passing of Dr. Hupp and her daughters were grown, she lived in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Fort Dodge, IA, Colorado Springs, CO, and Lincoln, NE. While living in Colorado she worked at the local hospital, as well as Hubbard and Hubbard Department Store. After moving back to Iowa and settling in Fort Dodge for a time, she worked at Mercy Hospital in the ER as a receptionist and nurse’s aide. Years later Bernice moved back to Atlantic and worked for Home Health Care and the Heritage House.
She is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Atlantic, and a former member of BPW. Bernice loved to travel, especially when it meant seeing her daughters. She also enjoyed playing Kings on the Corner and Bingo at The Waterford Assisted Living.
Bernice is survived by her daughters Barbara (Glynn) Bernis of Corning, IA, and Patricia (Jay) Kahler of Lincoln, NE; two grandsons, David (Dawn) Beardmore of Erlanger, KY and Scott (Alison) Harder of Mill Creek, WA; 3 great-grandsons, 2 great-granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; her sisters, Florence Kinnersley, Ada Hensley, Lorene Tracy Beebe, Lucille Grant, Valera Mayberry, Betty Winterstien; and her brothers, Leo, Bill, Art, and Clyde. Mabel and Earl died in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Atlantic First United Methodist Church, Tabitha Hospice in Lincoln, NE, American Cancer Society, or Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 5 at 11 a.m. at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic with Visitation from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be held at Atlantic Cemetery. A reception will be held following the committal at Schmidt Family Funeral Home's Community Room.
