Bill Metheny

Billie Dale Metheny, 86, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015, at Caring Acres Nursing & Rehab in Anita, Iowa.

Bill was born May 5, 1929, in Atlantic, Iowa. He grew up in the rural Anita area and attended Eureka Country School, and several other schools, finishing the eighth grade at Benton #2. He worked for local farmers and on February 4, 1948, he married Lena Mae Masching in Greenfield, Iowa. Bill and Lena Mae settled just north of Anita where they farmed for 3 years. They then moved to Adair County for 4 years before settling in Audubon County where they raised their family. Bill also worked as a front end loader operator for Irving Jensen Construction. In 1987, they moved to Anita.

Bill had a love for horses his whole life. He also enjoyed his dogs, hunting, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lena Mae; son, Sheldon Metheny; and two grandsons, Jimmy Waddell and Scotty Kline.

Bill is survived by his children; Sam (Linda) Metheny of Atlantic, IA, Judy (Bruce) Alff of Anita, Jane (Ron) Kline of Anita, IA, Sandra (Steve) Paulsen of Anita, IA, Steve Metheny of Anita, IA, Stanley (KD) Metheny of Wiota, IA, and Cathie Alff of Anita, IA; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., with a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA.
