Burnal Kleen

Burnal Gene Kleen, 77, of Marne, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the Griswold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Griswold, Iowa.

He was born March 29, 1939, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Henry and Emma (Tibken) Kleen. He attended country school until eighth grade and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1957. In 1962, he married Beverly Guensche at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.

Burnal served for eight years in the United States Army Reserves. He was an avid farmer and raised cattle and pigs his entire adult life. Burnal was a member of the Cass County Beef Producers. He enjoyed collecting tractors, both toy ones and real ones. He also loved attending farm auctions and never missed one. Burnal’s greatest joy was his family. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Preceding Burnal in death are his parents, Henry and Emma Kleen; his brother, Ed Kleen; and his parents-in-law, Raymond and Fern Guensche.

Those surviving Burnal are his wife, Beverly Kleen of Marne, IA; his son, Mitchell Kleen of Marne, IA; his daughter, LaNette (John) Freund of Lewis; seven grandchildren, Daylan Kleen of Audubon, IA, Hayden Kleen of Atlantic, IA, Cynthia (fiancé Chad Brester) Freund of Omaha, NE, John Paul, Stephanie, Ashley and Jacquelyn Freund all of Lewis, IA; sister-in-law, Barb Rehmeier of Henderson, NV and her son, Jason Kleen of Omaha; sister, Arla (Jack) Pickham of Avoca, IA and her children, Randy, Rusty and Dan Johnson all of Omaha, NE; other relatives and friends.

The family strongly asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Cass County 4-H or dementia research.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Interment of cremains will take place in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.

Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
