Carl Kemp

May 29, 1970 — December 29, 2015

Carl R. Kemp, 45, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 29, 1970, the son of Mark and Mahala (Garrigan) Kemp. Growing up with seven siblings, he was never alone and always had something going on.

Carl's two children, Keegan and Mahala, were the love of his life. He was so very proud of them and their accomplishments. He loved helping with Keegan's Boy Scout group activities and Mahala's activities. Carl lived through his children's eyes.

He enjoyed working on motors, fixing up old cars and riding around town in his favorite Mustang. Carl would occasionally take time out to race some friends and show others his car still had it. He loved spending hot summer days out on the lake with his children and friends boating and watching his children having fun while tubing and knee-boarding.

Carl loved his job at Atlantic Carriers and all of the men and women he worked with. He always spoke very highly of his work and said they were his second family. He would never turn down anybody who needed his help. More importantly, he never expected anything in return. Carl devoted much of his time to helping his family in their time of need.

Carl is survived by his son, Keegan Lee Kemp; daughter, Mahala TessaAnn Kemp; mother of his children, Jamie Kemp; his father, Mark Kemp; siblings, Karelyn (Rex) Jones, Tim Kemp, Tom Kemp, Shelley (Pat) Hopley, Deanna (Chuck) Morys, Bert Kemp and Jeremy Kemp; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mahala Ann Kemp; grandparents, Alphonse and Marie Kemp and Charles and Sophia Garrigan; and sister-in-law, Lois Kemp.

Memorials are preferred to the family's wishes.
