Caroline Eileen (Johnson) Hemmingsen, 86, of Marne, Iowa passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

Carol was born on December 20, 1937. She was the daughter of Arnold & Frances Johnson. Carol attended a country school close to her home until it burned down. She then finished the school year in their home. She attended middle school in Marne (now the fire station) through the 8th grade and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1956.

They lived in the Elk Horn and Marne areas until moving to their farm in 1972 where she resided until her illness prevented her.

Carol worked at Husker News after high school and then worked for Hess Benefit Society for over 20 years. She loved living on the farm and fixing meals for the guys during fieldwork time, always making something delicious! She enjoyed being with her family, both here and in Des Moines, making many trips to visit her sister and brother-in-law along with many nieces and nephews and their children.

In her younger years, Carol and Richard enjoyed square dancing and polka music. Carol was a Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church member, helping with meals at the parish center. She enjoyed being an active member of the Red Hat Society, connecting with her friend group on a regular basis.

Carol is survived by her son, Rodney Hemmingsen and his wife, Patti of Marne, Iowa; their children, Trey Hemmingsen and his husband Charlie Owen of Denver, Colorado, and Zach Hemmingsen, his wife Afton, and great-granddaughter, Havannah of Marne, Iowa; sister, La Vila Nielsen and her husband Dale, of Johnston, Iowa; and many loved nieces, nephews, and their children.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hemmingsen, her parents Arnold & Frances Johnson, and mother and father-in-law, Pete and Elsie Hemmingsen.
