CAROL PHILLIPS

Daisy Carol Phillips, 94, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006, at the Colonial Manor in Anita.
Carol was born July 2, 1912, in Warren County, Iowa, the daughter of Riley R. and Florence E. (Reed) Reeves.
She grew up in the Swan and Pleasantville, Iowa, area, lived in Washington State for a short period of time and moved to Anita in 1950.
Carol started school at 4 years old and graduated in 12 years without missing a day of school.
On March 19, 1938, Carol married Glenn Phillips in Knoxville, Iowa. Glenn passed away November 26, 1980.
Carol drove a log truck for her Dad after high school graduation. While in school, she drove a horse-drawn school bus. After her marriage to Glenn, Carol was a farm wife and in later years owned and operated the White Front Café in Anita until her retirement. She had also worked in private homes, cooking and taking care of children.
Carol was a member of Central Church of Christ in Anita and was baptized in the Des Moines River as a young girl.
She was a past member and past Worthy Matron of Columbia, Chapter 127, Order of the Eastern Star; was a 4-H leader of the Gay Grant Gals; and was a member of the Anita American Legion Auxiliary and the Sunshine Club.
Carol enjoyed baking pies and sweet-rolls, quilting and crocheting. She also loved to play cards and bingo. She made quilts for all her grandchildren's weddings and crocheted afghans for all her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Lillian Wilson and her husband, Ron of Adair, Iowa; two sons, Jim Phillips and his wife, Donna and Larry Phillips and his wife, MaryLou, all of Anita, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rena Waul of Cherokee, Iowa, as well as nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents, Riley and Florence Reeves; three brothers, Gail, Ivan and Dean Reeves; two sisters, Flavia Mix and Lola Zsembery; one great grand-daughter, Tori Barker; and a daughter-in-law, Joan Phillips.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 21, 2006, at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita with the Reverend Nancy Jensen of the Anita Congregational Church officiating.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday evening, from 6 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Committal services and interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Anita, Iowa, followed by fellowship and lunch at the Anita American Legion Hall.
Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita is in charge of the arrangements.
