Mrs. Carol Marie Plowman, age 80, of Adair, IA, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Community Care Center in Stuart, IA.
Carol Marie Moe was born December 10, 1944, to Eldor and Helen (Smith) Moe in Waterloo, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church near her home in Waterloo. She graduated in 1963 from West High School in Waterloo. After graduation she moved to Des Moines where she worked at a recording and statistical corporation. Shortly thereafter, she met Ronald Dean Plowman, the love of her life. The two were married on June 26, 1965. To that union, four children were born: Leann Sue in 1966, Leslie Kay in 1968, Darrin Scott in 1970 and Brian Dean in 1972.
The couple moved to Stuart in 1967 and purchased the Standard Oil Station. In 1969 the couple moved to Adair and purchased Plowman Trenching. Carol became the bookkeeper for Plowman Trenching while raising their four children. She was a devoted mother and later a very devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, always willing to watch and care for her grandchildren at a moment’s notice. Her family was everything to her. She could often be found at a ball game, dance recital, birthday party or any event they were involved in.
In 1982 she began teaching at Little Cherubs Preschool in Adair, where she earned the title of Miss Carol. In 1985 she became the preschool director, a position she adored. Serving as an election official for many years was an additional appointment Carol enjoyed.
Carol embraced the needs of small-town living, volunteering whenever she was asked. As a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Carol was on the Altar Guild and was also a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. In addition, she served as a Cub Scout and 4-H leader when her children were younger. Her passion and dedication to the youth in the community carried on when she became involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Southwest Iowa in Adair. Carol looked forward to attending all auctions, soup suppers and breakfasts to support the kids of the club. When an impromptu judge was needed for coloring and talent contests at the club, Carol would drop what she was doing and answer the call! In 2020 Carol was awarded the distinguished Impact Award, presented by the Boys and Girls Club.
Also in retirement, she began volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program in Adair. In addition, Carol was an active member of the Adair Women’s Club, organizing the annual Christmas Festival of Trees for many years. Her love for decorating continued when she volunteered to be a Petal Pusher at the Rose Parade with the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
