Cecil Boos

Cecil Oliver Boos, age 82, of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, IA.

Cecil was born October 24, 1938, in Council Bluffs, IA, an only child to Harold and Gladys (McFaden) Boos. Growing up on a farm near Cumberland, IA, at the age of 10, Cecil battled polio. He attended Cumberland Schools graduating from Cumberland High School in 1956 at the age of 16. On April 24, 2018, in Corning, IA, Cecil was married to Lela Lantz. Cecil’s whole life was devoted to farming and his Case equipment. The Boos Family Farm that Cecil grew up on received the title of being a Century Family Farm, going to the Iowa State Fair to receive an award which he was very proud of. Outside of farming, another passion of his was woodworking. Cecil had his very own sawmill that he operated called CB Lumber. He was a true craftsman of many furniture items for his home and others. Cecil had a love for trains and other hobbies included trapping, hunting, and going on a fishing trip with his cousin Marvin Pelzer. Together they were like brothers. Cecil was a history buff, and collected many items including antique insulators, Indian artifacts, and coins.

Preceded in his death are his parents, Harold and Gladys (McFaden) Boos; two sons, Mitchel Boos, and Lonnie Boos along his wife Nancy Boos; and granddaughter, Kayleen Amos.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Lela and his stepchildren, Sherry Andersen, Lori Hix, Brian (Lee) Lank and Bradley (Natosha) Lank; and 9 step grandchildren and 13 step great-grandchildren; and his children, Dan (Shirley) Boos, Dave (Becky) Boos, Linda (Cecil) Teeter, Patti (Jeff) Amos, and Kati (Troy) Williams; and 16 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 28, 2021, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA, with a committal taking place at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA. Open visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 2021, also at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic.
