Cecil Merle Denney, 78, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa.

Cecil was born on May 21, 1938, in Wiota, Iowa, to Joseph Cecil and Zeta Marie (Cue) Denney. He attended school in Anita until the 8th grade. Cecil married Sherri Sue Winther on April 26, 1982, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa.

He worked as a butcher for Miller's Locker in Anita and for Henningsen Locker in Atlantic. In 1972, he became self employed as a handy man and as a trash man. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1955 through 1964. Cecil had been a resident of Anita for 77 years before moving to Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, IA, due to illness.
Cecil enjoyed spending time with family, grandkids and friends. He also enjoyed wood working and making crafts, fishing, and he and Sherri had a love for dogs and they had raised several Rat Terrier dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sherri; a step-brother, Jimmy Larsen; and a sister, Hilda Lorraine.

Cecil is survived by a son, Cecil Merle (Amanda) Denney Jr. of Elk Horn, IA; granddaughters, Justice and Jasmine Doherty of Elk Horn, IA; step-brothers, Ray (Doris) Larsen of Lake View, IA, and Norman "Red" (Romona) Larsen of Atlantic, IA; and cousins, Ron, Joe, Jim and Howard Denney, Rose Watson, LaVonne Morgan and Laurel Erickson.
Visitation with family will be from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2016, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita.

A private family burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa, will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be left to the families wishes.
