Charles "Lafe" Scarlett, 97, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 4, 2006, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa
Charles Lafyette Scarlett was born on November 14, 1908, the son of John Frederick and Ella (Scholl) Scarlett.
Lafe lived all of his life in Anita, Iowa, and graduated from Anita High School in 1927.
He served in the United States Army from January of 1942 to September of 1945.
Lafe loved to read and read everything he could get his hands on.
He is survived by his siblings, Helen Redburn of Anita, Iowa, Fred Scarlett, Jr. of Adair, Iowa, Norma Williams of Des Moines, Iowa, Harold Scarlett of Omaha, Nebraska, Mildred Sparling of Arizona, Edward Scarlett and his wife (Ann) of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
Lafe was preceded in death by his parents, 2 step-mothers, his brother, George Scarlett, and his nephew, Darrell Scarlett.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2006, at Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2006, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita.
