Clara Gill

Clara Jean Gill, (96), of Atlantic, Iowa, and formerly of Anita, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

She was born September 28, 1921, in Wiota, Iowa, to Sam and Pearl Wood. Jean was raised in Wiota and graduated from the Wiota High School. On September 18, 1946, she married Clair Gill. They shared 65 wonderful years together and enjoyed spending the winter months in Pharr, Texas, for 20 years.

Jean was a long-time employee of the Anita Community Schools, first as secretary at the elementary school and later as secretary at the high school and to the superintendent and school board. She was a lifelong resident of Anita until moving to Heritage House in 2008. Jean and Clair were members of the Congregational United Church of Christ.

Surviving Jean is her daughter, Linda Schilling, of Chicago; nieces, Margaret Anderson, Sue Ann Blake, Nora Kinsey, Lisa Kirby, Sara Lee and Pam Allen; nephews, Craig Wood and Alan Kinsey; brother-in-law, Ron (Rose) Gill; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Gill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Clair Gill; her parents, and her brother, Russell Wood.

Per Jean’s wishes, cremation will take place and a graveside service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa, will take place at a later date.
