Connie Fox-Hawthorne, age 75, of Ankeny, an Audubon native, passed away on Friday, May 01, 2026, at Mercy One West Des Moines, in West Des Moines, IA.
Connie was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, IA, on April 17, 1951, the daughter of Gerald and Thelma (Zubrod) Fox. She attended Gray and Audubon Schools, graduating with the class of 1970. Connie was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Audubon, IA.
Connie worked at Goodwill Industries and Mercy Hospitals before retiring in 2020. She was a strong-willed, independent woman who never let challenges get the best of her. Her physical disability did not diminish her zest for life. She enjoyed shopping, playing board games, spoiling her dog Bella, and relaxing on “ladies night” with laughter and margaritas.
She is preceded in death by her Parents, Gerald and Thelma Fox; sister and brother-in-law, Vickie (Chuck) Hester.
Connie is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy (Dennis) Carter, and Mary (Dante) Toriello, and a brother Dan Fox; Nieces and Nephews, Jerry (Ann) Carter and their children, Olivia, Vince, and Gavin; Jill Notz and her children, Brody and Bennett; Deb (Doug) Doering, and their children, Natalie, Carter, and Hunter; Christina (Josh) Fogelson, and their children, Kylee, Madelyn, and Gracelyn; Ryan Hester; and other multiple nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 09, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Audubon, IA, with Fr David Nkrumah as the Celebrant. Visitation with the family will be held at the Church one hour before the Mass on Saturday. Interment will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. Following the interment, a luncheon will be held at the St. Patrick Parish Hall in Audubon.
Memorials may be directed to the ALS Clinic at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, IA, in memory of Connie. They may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 201, Audubon, IA 50025.
