Curtis Hans Frederiksen

June 22, 1934 — May 5, 2022

Curtis Hans Frederiksen of Audubon, Iowa passed away on May 05, 2022 at his beloved home at the Exira Care Center. He was 87 years old. He was born on June 22, 1934 to parents Fred and Clara (Petersen) Frederiksen at their family farm in Hamlin. He was baptized at the Hamlin Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. During his early schooling he attended Brushy College and Old Hamlin # 1. He continued on to high school at Audubon Community School. His father passed away when Curtis was 10 years old. His mother was remarried to Magnus Madsen and Curtis enjoyed many years with him as step-father.

Curtis was working on the family farm when in 1956 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He completed basic training in Colorado Springs, CO and then went to Signal School in Ft. Gordon, GA. Before being deployed to Germany, Curtis was married to Sharon Kallesen. The couple flew to Darmstadt, Germany and lived on base for 15 months. During that time they visited relatives in Denmark and sights in Austria. After two years of service, Curtis was honorably discharged in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He then returned to Hamlin to farm.

During the next four years, two daughters were born to the couple: Lana and Lisa. The family then moved to Audubon where Curtis was employed at Purina. For almost eight years, Curtis ground feed for local farmers. In 1968, Curtis began work for Moorman’s Feed Company. He delivered feed (bag and bulk) for twenty-six years. Curtis cherished countless jokes and pranks with his co-workers. He also enjoyed delivering feed to farmers in southwest Iowa. Customers often requested Curtis as he was meticulous in his work. After retiring Curtis worked for feed supply companies in Exira and Audubon. In his later years, Curtis often reminisced that he wore out six trucks, drove over one million miles, never having an accident.

During his childhood, Curtis enjoyed family vacations with siblings and cousins. During married years, the family took many summer vacations of which Curtis enjoyed immensely. Although Curtis was a quiet, soft-spoken man he had a great sense of humor. He was often telling jokes with others over church coffee or at Jim’s Barbershop. Curtis thrived on the latest updates by keeping one eye on the weather and the other on Fox News. For many years he took meticulous care of his lawn and vehicles. He also mowed lawns and assisted neighbors with special needs.

Curtis was a longtime congregational member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. He seldom missed a Sunday service until his health declined. For many years, he served as an usher and the sound system operator. He served on the church council and as taxi driver.

Preceding Curtis in death were his parents, step-father, infant sister, Carol Ann, brother, Franklin & wife Gwendolyn; brother-in-law, Ernest Albertsen and sister, Sally Coulthard.

Curtis is survived by his sister, Ardys Albertsen (Audubon); daughters, Lana Barker (Audubon) and Lisa Frederiksen (Audubon); granddaughter, Erica Frederiksen (Milwaukee, WI); grandsons, Jacob and Lukas Barker (Tucson, AZ); step-sister, Joy St. Peter (Audubon); brother-in-law, Dr. Stanley Coulthard (Tucson, AZ); special friend, Alma Stanley (Audubon); as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
