1954 Dale 2022

Dale Christensen

December 31, 1954 — October 11, 2022

Dale Lloyd Christensen, 67, of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Cass Health in Atlantic.

Dale was born December 31, 1954, the son of Lloyd and Norma (Anderson) Christensen, in Creston, Iowa. He was raised in the rural Cumberland area and attended C&M school.

Dale was a farmer and continued to farm up until he passed away. He also held several other jobs including the Coke plant in Atlantic, a truck driver for Atlantic Carriers and Sorenson Grain, south of Cumberland. He made many trips to Omaha Livestock hauling cattle and hogs for people around the area. He also helped Merlin Schaaf with farm work at times through the years.

He enjoyed attending tractor shows and parades, air shows around the midwest, with David, and truck shows with Danny Meyer. He was a member of the John Deere Two-Cylinder Club at one time and enjoyed participating in many area 4th of July parades, usually with his nieces and great-nieces in tow. He enjoyed watching Dean and Nick Christensen and their pulling trucks.

Dale looked forward to attending Cass County Fair each year to watch his great-nieces show their animals. Watching the girls play softball was a favorite. He also was looking forward to the coming basketball season to watch them play.

Family gatherings meant a lot to Dale. These were the times when he would see the out-of-state great nephews and great niece.

His doctor visits in Oakland usually ended with a trip north to Wings of America at Avoca, or for Mexican food at Taco Johns, or to Council Bluffs to eat Culver’s or Arby’s. Looking for a Pizza Hut meant trips to Winterset, Cherokee, Knoxville, and various other spots.

He and David planted sweet corn every year to shuck and cut for the freezer and usually had help from Linda and whatever kids were available to help.

Even though Dale’s health issues started in 2000, he never gave up always following the many doctors orders and changes in medications in the hopes of feeling better. He already had plans made for several projects he wanted to finish and new ones he wanted to start.

Dale is survived by his brother, David, of Cumberland, and sister, Linda Shafer, of Atlantic. Two nieces, Jennifer Richter and her husband, Brian, and their family, Hannah Richter of Maryville, MO, Abbigael and Madeline Richter of Atlantic; Amy Lange and her husband, Jon, and their family, Kiefer, Makenna and Bryce Lange of Concordia, MO. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Norma Christensen, brother-in-law, Larry Shafer, and other family members.
