Dave Rydl

David John Rydl, 72, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Caring Acres Nursing & Rehab in Anita, Iowa.

Dave was born March 5, 1945, in rural Exira, Audubon County, Iowa, to Joseph and Mary Frances Rydl. He attended school in Exira and graduated from the Exira High School in 1963.

In October of 1964, he married Joan Benshoof.

He resided in Anita and Exira most of his life, as well as spending seven years in Gilbert to be closer to his family.

Dave had a 40 year career with Walnut Grove Feeds in Atlantic, while at the same time farming north of Anita. After retiring from Walnut Grove Feeds, he enjoyed his cattle herd and his dogs. In his free time he loved driving school buses for Anita and Atlantic community schools.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anita. Dave enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada, auctions where he could socialize, deer and coon hunting, and collecting Ford tractors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Rydl; 2 brothers, Jerry and Frank in infancy.

Dave is survived by three sons, Frank (Sherri) Rydl of Gilbert, IA, Shaun Rydl and his fiancé Natalie Cooley of Indianola, IA, Jeremy (Julie) Rydl of Boone, IA; a daughter, Jamie (Andy) Clifford of Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren, Chelsea (Cass) Page of Osceola, IA, Chanda (Tiegen) Wood of Waukee, IA, Carter Cooley of Creston, IA, Rebecca Rydl of Ames, IA, Jordan Rydl of Boone, IA, Drew Clifford of Fayetteville, AR, Rachel Rydl of Gilbert, IA, and Jaden Rydl of Boone, IA; three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Mayer, and Forest Wood of Waukee, IA; a sister, Jo Marie (Keith) Bruss of Apple Valley, MN; one niece and three nephews.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anita, IA, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita.

Memorials may be left to the Friends of Lake Anita.
