DAVID V. ARMENTROUT

David V. Armentrout, 60, a lifelong Atlantic resident, passed away Monday, August 7, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
David Vernon Armentrout was born May 17, 1946 in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Wilbur Aaron and Betty Jane (Randall) Armentrout.
He was a 1964 graduate of the Atlantic High School.
Dave served his country for four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
In February of 1969, Dave married Susan Kay Sampson.
In December of 1985, Dave started his life with Marsha Jean Cameron, and on
February 20, 1999, the couple was married.
Dave was a member of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic.
He had worked for the Iowa Highway Commission and later owned and operated the Armentrout Construction Co. Dave also owned and operated Dave's Greenhouse, and for the past six months, worked at WalMart in Atlantic, where his gardening ability earned him the nickname of "Greenhouse Dave".
Besides his reputation as a gardener, he was a self-taught master carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Armentrout of Atlantic Iowa; daughter, Sara Lane; son, Desmond Armentrout, both of Atlantic, Iowa; his mother, Betty Thompson of Atlantic, Iowa; three step-children, Shannon (Robert) Zenk of LeMars, Iowa, Joel (Susanna) Cameron of Atlantic, Iowa, Tony (April) Cameron of Brayton, Iowa; two brothers, Dwight Armentrout and his friend, Scott Schmidt, both of Cathedral City, California, and Doug (Paige) Armentrout of Woodinville, Washington; seven grandchildren, Christina Brown and Courtney Lane, both of Atlantic, Iowa, Faith, Hope and Kyle Zenk, all of LeMars, Iowa, Morganne and Savannah Cameron, both of
Atlantic, Iowa; his uncle, Jack Randall, of Atlantic, Iowa, and son, Scott Randall, of Thornton, Colorado; as well as four nephews, Erick, Tyler, Emery and Wilbur Armentrout.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur A. Armentrout and a step-son, Tracy Cameron.
Visitation will begin at 12 Noon on Thursday, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at Hockenberrys.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2006, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic with the Reverend Dr. Mary Hansen of the Atlantic United Church of Christ officiating. Fellowship and lunch will follow in Hockenberry's Community Room.
His ashes will be buried in the Atlantic Cemetery at a later date.
The family is requesting that memorials go to the American Cancer Society in Dave's memory.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
