Delmar LeRoy Berg, 92, of Atlantic, Iowa and formerly of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
He was born May 7, 1926, the son of Nels and Hertha (Hansen) Berg in Brayton, Iowa. Delmar was raised in the Cumberland area. On March 28, 1950, he married Wanda Rathman in Audubon, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm near Cumberland until 1984, when they moved into Cumberland. Delmar was a farmer and a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wiota, Iowa. He became a member at the age of 13 and was confirmed at the church.
Delmar is survived by his son, Rex Berg of Atlantic, IA; his daughter, Lin (Kurt) Briley of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Allison) Briley and Bethany (Jeff) VanRoy all of Omaha, NE; his great-grandchildren, Ara, Grace and Tate Briley and Ellie VanRoy all of Omaha, NE; his sister, Lorraine Tharp of Denver, CO; his sisters-in-law, Norma Anderson of Denver, CO, and Bonnie Knott of Griswold, IA; many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Hertha Berg; and his wife, Wanda Berg; his brothers, Lloyd and Merlyn Berg; his sister, Ivadell (Berg) Hayes; his sister-in-law, Maryleona Berg and Lola Berg; his brothers-in-law, Gene Hayes, Harold “Ray” Thomas, Warren Tharp and Jerry Anderson; his niece, Pamela Berg and his nephews, Allan Berg and Archie Hayes.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Wiota, Iowa, with burial in First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Wiota, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
