Delmar Gustafson

Delmar Glen Gustafson, 67, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Delmar was born December 20, 1947, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Glen Howard and Darlene Ruth (Tibben) Gustafson. He grew up in Adair and graduated from Adair-Casey High School in 1966. He joined the US Army in 1968 and served one tour in Viet Nam where he became a member of the Manchu's. After returning from Viet Nam, he farmed near Adair where he was considered a well-respected farmer. Delmar also worked as an over the road trucker. He was a member of the VFW Post 8877 in Adair, IA, the Adair County Conservation Club, an honorary member of the Pottawattamie Tribe, member of the 2nd generation of the Jesse James Gang and the rifle organization in Adair.

He loved NASCAR especially car #88, antique John Deere tractors, visiting about and observing the things associated with farming and spending time with family and his granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Kerry Sue Dunn and Cheryl Gustafson.

Delmar is survived by a daughter, Jessica (Jerrid) Denney of Dexter, IA; granddaughter, Jovie Denney of Dexter, IA; sisters, Cindy (Brad) Reinhardt of Davenport, IA and Nancy Slayton of Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law, Randy Dunn of Cape Girardeau, MO; special friend and companion, Sue Plagman of Casey, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, IA.

Burial will be in Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair, IA, with full military honors by the Adair VFW Post 8877 and the Iowa Military Funeral Honors, Des Moines, Iowa.

Memorials are preferred to the Huntington Society or to family's wishes.
