Delores “Babe” Alberta Klever, the youngest child of Jesse and Bertha (Zaiser) Stansberry was born on June 28, 1929, at her parents’ home near Missouri Valley, Iowa, and died January 5, 2026, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa, at the age of 96 years, 6 months, and 8 days.
A graduate of Missouri Valley High School in 1946, Babe was united in marriage to Virgil Klever on April 20, 1948, at the Presbyterian Manse in Audubon. They were blessed with three sons: Tom, Randy, and Larry. Babe worked as a homemaker and helped run the family farm. A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, she served on the Board of Trustees, and she and Virgil were members of the Mariners Club.
Babe found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including baking, gardening, and shopping. She cherished her role as a grandmother, often babysitting her nine grandchildren. In their retirement years, she and Virgil enjoyed traveling.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband Virgil; her grandson Scott Klever; her parents; sisters and brothers Lucy and husband Harold Syas; James Stansberry and wife Helen; Raymond Stansberry; Rozella and husband Harold Martens; Lenora and husband Bill Lundeen, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles and Lillie (Toots) Klever, nephew Gary Lundeen; and niece Mary Lee Stansberry.
Survivors include her children Tom and wife Lynn Klever of Audubon; Randy and wife Gayle Klever of Clive, Iowa; Larry and wife Mary Klever of Audubon; her grandchildren Josh (Nicki) Klever; Bailey (Kentrel) Washington; Alex (Natasha) Klever; Hilary (Cory) Bruch; Grant (Sarah) Klever; Christine (Andrew) Gschwind; Jeff Klever; Katie Klever (Tyler Wede); and Kevin (Kelly) Klever, her twenty great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, IA, with Rev. Sheryl Puderbaugh officiating. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. A luncheon will follow the committal in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
A public visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Klever Family. They will be designated at a later date in memory of Delores "Babe", and may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 201, Audubon, IA 50025.
