Denise Mcdaniel

Denise A. McDaniel, 57, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Denise Annette Mathisen McDaniel was born August 20, 1957, in Atlantic, Iowa, to James Milo and Genevieve (Rotherham) Mathisen. She was a life-long resident of Atlantic, Iowa. She attended the Atlantic school system graduating from Atlantic High School. She married Paul E. McDaniel on December 27, 1980, in Atlantic, Iowa. She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church in Atlantic.

Throughout the years she worked for Geis Jewelry, McDaniel's House of Flowers, Easter's Deli, Templeman's Taxi and then started her own business, Denise's Taxi Service.

Preceding Denise in death were her parents, James and Genevieve Mathisen; her brother, Jim Mathisen; and a sister, Phyllis Ehle. She died together with her husband, Paul McDaniel.

Surviving Denise are her son, James McDaniel (fiancé, Beverly Todd) of Atlantic, IA, 3 grandsons, Jaylen "JJ", Aden and Leon all of Atlantic, IA; 2 brothers, Terry (Jane) Mathisen of Atlantic, IA and Jon Mathisen of Carroll, IA; 2 sisters, Cindy Booton of Griswold, IA and Janice Peterson of Atlantic, IA; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and the hundreds of squirrels she abruptly braked for in Atlantic.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the family in lieu of flowers.
