Dennis Lee Schwab

July 30, 1955 — September 17, 2019

Dennis “Oscar” Lee Schwab, the son of Marvin “Jack” and Phyllis (Byrum) Schwab, was born July 30, 1955, in Atlantic, Iowa and died September 17, 2019, at his home in Washington, Iowa at the age of 64 years, 1 month, and 17 days.
Dennis was baptized September 18, 1955, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic and confirmed May 3, 1970, at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. Dennis attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1974. Dennis was employed by Henningsen Construction as a concrete finisher for several years. He always wanted to drive trucks, so while he was working construction, he studied for and received his CDL license. He drove for Brayton Produce for several years and then started driving for Aud-Ex Feed Service.
On May 31, 1986, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Stoneking at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa, and they were blessed with one son: Peter. Dennis continued to drive for Aud-Ex, and he had the pleasure of driving the Purina semi with the checker board trailer, which everyone recognized as he drove down the highway. Aud-Ex was purchased by Purina and later by Juergens. Dennis operated the feed mill and delivered feed for more than 33 years in total. In December of 2012, he was employed at Farner-Bocken in Carroll, Iowa as a warehouse picker, where he worked until he retired in May of 2017 due to his failing health.
Dennis had been a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon since October of 1994. He also served on the Brayton Fire Department for several years. Dennis and Jeanne loved to travel on his Honda Goldwing and enjoyed traveling the back roads to visit many sites of interest. He enjoyed fishing and target shooting with his son Peter. Dennis was an avid card player, enjoying gin rummy the most. After he retired, he looked forward every afternoon to gathering at Darrell’s Place in Hamlin for coffee and to catch up on all the local goings-on.
As his health deteriorated, he enjoyed watching Westerns, putting together jig-saw puzzles, and taking drives around the area, occasionally stopping for ice cream. Dennis always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Marvin “Jack” and Phyllis Schwab and his father-in-law and his mother-in-law Douglas and Beverlyn Stoneking.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Schwab and son, Peter Schwab both of Washington, Iowa; his twin brother Dean and wife Carol Schwab of Brayton; his sisters Donna and husband Winston Hoegh and Debra and husband Lee Butler all of Atlantic; his brothers-in-law, Dennis and wife Leanne Stoneking of Northwood, Iowa and David and wife Paula Stoneking of Davenport, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
