Donald Bornholdt

Donald Wayne Bornholdt, 79, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016, at his home in Atlantic, Iowa.

He was born February 19, 1937, in Cass County, Iowa, the son of Orville and Margaret (Brink) Bornholdt. Donald grew up in and spent his entire life mostly in Cass County. He attended Walnut community schools until the 11th grade. Donald then attended his senior year of high school at Atlantic High School and graduated with the class of 1957. On February 20, 1958, he married Marlis Pelzer at the Atlantic First United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church. Donald was a farmer all of his life and devoted husband and father.

In his spare time, Donald enjoyed family gatherings at the farm, fishing, Sunday drives, family softball games, playing cards and pool. Don and Marlis enjoyed dancing.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife of over 55 years, Marlis Bornholdt; his parents, Orville and Margaret Bornholdt; his parents-in-law, Maurice and Violet Pelzer; his brothers, Arlin Bornholdt, Everett Bornholdt, Carl Bornholdt, Ross Bornholdt; his sisters, Janis (Wilbur) Andersen and Helen (John) Marxen and his sister-in-law, LaDonna Walker.

He is survived by his children, Renee (Mike) Juza of Spencer, IA, Dwayne (Janelle) Bornholdt of Atlantic, IA, Rhonda (Rob) Maidhof of Broomfield, CO, and LaVon (Mick) Sager of Atlantic, IA; his grandchildren, Jacob (Chelsea) Juza of Spencer, IA, Geoffrey (Molly) Juza of Cedar Falls, IA, Adam (fiancé Jessica Wallace) Juza of Dickens, IA and Timothy (friend Tiana Tesch) Juza of Spencer, IA, Sara (Matt) Bax of Stover, MO, Dennis Bornholdt of Atlantic, IA, Ryan and Will Maidhof of Broomfield, CO, Whitney (friend Jesse Baxter) Sager of Cambridge, IA, Jordan (fiancé Kyle Dailey) Sager of Council Bluffs, IA, Heather (friend Eric Kirchner) Sager of Atlantic, IA and Tucker (fiancé Meaghan Sonntag) Sager of Exira, IA; his great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Leslie and Madison Juza of Spencer, IA, Daniel and Matthew Juza of Cedar Falls, IA, Emily and Joshua Bax of Stover, MO; Morgan Kirchner of Atlantic, IA, and Milo Sager of Exira, IA; his siblings, Max (Joan) Bornholdt of Walnut, IA, Robert (Judy) Bornholdt of Kimballton, IA, and Darlene (Dewey) Hess of Harlan, IA; his sisters-in-law, Janet Bornholdt and Mickey Bornholdt both of Atlantic, Jean Bornholdt of Walnut, and Verdelle (Jerry) Templeman of Atlantic, IA; his brother-in-law, Dave Walker of Des Moines, IA; his special friend, Lyn Lambertson of Atlantic, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, September 2, 2016, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., also at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Interment will be in the Brighton Township Cemetery, Marne, Iowa.
A time for fellowship and lunch will be held at the Hockenberry Family Care community room after the committal service.
Memorials may be made to the Cass County Iowa 4-H, Atlantic FFA, or the Nishna Valley YMCA .
