Donald Clair Huff

Donald Clair Huff was born on May 2, 1934, on the family farm south of Exira, IA. His parents were Clair and June Heckman Huff. He passed away at his home on May 6, 2024. He attended country schools in the Exira school district and graduated in 1952 at the Exira High School. He entered the Army on October 7, 1953, served in Korea and was honorably discharged on July 11, 1955.

On September 11, 1955, he was married to Lila Rae Dressler at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita. From this marriage they had two children, Mark and Craig. He was a farmer throughout his life, first on a farm north of Anita in Audubon Co and then moved to Lila’s family farm in Lincoln Township in 1965. They retired from farming in 2004. They raised corn, soybeans, oats and hay along with cattle, hogs, chickens and sheep. They also had dogs, cats and horses to take care of. For several years they raised purebred
Hereford cattle.

On the first farm, he built the house and built many other buildings throughout the years even without formal training. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and golf. They also enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states plus Europe and Canada. After retirement, they wintered in McAllen, TX for many years.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and at one time was the superintendent of the Sunday School. He was also a member of the Lions Club and was secretary of Lincoln Township.

He is survived by his wife Lila of Anita, sons Mark and wife Marsha in Kansas City, MO and Craig and wife Kathy in Stuart along with grandchildren Madison of Kansas City and Gabe of Omaha, NE along with step-grandchildren Ben of Anita and Ricki of Norwalk. He also leaves one great grandchild along with several step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert and Richard and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, IA. Burial will follow with full military honors at the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5 pm till 7 pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Anita Community Building in Anita.
