Dorothy Bouchard

Dorothy Marie Kunz Bouchard, 77, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Dorothy was born July 6, 1937, to August and Adelyn (Ruppert) Kunz in the northwest Iowa town of Curlew. She was the second youngest of eight children consisting of four boys and four girls. She graduated from St. Cecilia High School in Algona, Iowa, and moved to Spencer, Iowa. She worked in Spencer until July 15, 1961, when she married Carroll E. Bouchard in Mallard, Iowa.

They moved to Carroll, Iowa, where their three children were born. Then in 1969 they moved to Atlantic, Iowa, and lived on Roosevelt Drive for 42 years. In 2011, Dorothy and Carroll moved to the condos on 14th Street in Atlantic.

Dorothy was a homemaker until she and Carroll opened a restaurant, Carroll's Country Café, in 1987. They continued to run the café until their retirement in 1995. She loved and lived for her children and grandchildren. One thing she enjoyed doing for them was baking banana bread because they loved it. She also enjoyed having coffee with the neighbors.

Throughout all the years in Atlantic Dorothy was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. She was also a member of the DOEs.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; and her brothers, Donald Kunz, Kenneth Kunz and Maurice Kunz.

Surviving Dorothy are her husband, Carroll Bouchard of Atlantic, IA; her children, Debbie (Rob) Van Cleave of Atlantic, Chris (Amy) Bouchard of Treynor, IA and Curt (Ann) Bouchard of Polk City, IA; grandchildren, Sara Mullin of Atlantic, IA, Matt Sorensen of Sioux Falls, SD, Hilary Sorensen of Maryville, MO, Taylor Bouchard and Tanner Bouchard both of Treynor, IA, Cole Bouchard, Coby Bouchard, Dominic Bouchard and Sophia Bouchard all of Polk City, IA; great-grandson, Jackson Mullin of Atlantic, IA; brother, Larry Kunz of Reno, NV; sisters, Jeanette (Bob) Buscher of Algona, IA, Shirley Dawson of Ozark, MO and Margie Arend of Altoona, IA; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Paxton of Grand Junction, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2015, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with burial in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, all in Atlantic, Iowa.

There will be a prayer service at 4:00 p.m., with visitation to follow until 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
