Edward Furne

Edward E. Furne Jr., 75, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

Edward was born February 16, 1941, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Edward E. and Ida (Hansen) Furne. He grew up in Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek High School. At age 17 he joined the US Navy, and upon completion of his military duty, he was honorably discharged. He was married to Ileen Andersen on April 23, 1965, at the Hope Lutheran Church in Maryville, Missouri. Ed and Ileen lived in Exira and moved to Atlantic in 1966. They owned and operated Furne Moving & Storage for 48 years. After retiring from their business, he drove Tender Truck for FS Agriland.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Elks, Nishna Hills Golf Club, the Atlantic Golf and Country Club, Rawhiders Saddle Club, and he was most proud to have participated in the Freedom Flight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Ida Furne; a sister, Frances; and brothers, Andrew, Richard, Fredrick and Willis.

Edward is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ileen Furne of Atlantic, IA; a son, Jack (Linda) Furne of Arvada, CO; daughters, Kandie (Phil) Bender of Kansas City, MO and Susie Page of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Deven, Nikki, Sara, Veronica, Jerricka, Tiffiney (Aaron) Baumgarden, Chris, Haley, Justin, Anthony and Brandi; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Judy) Furne of Battle Creek, IA, Dennis (Elaine) Furne of Atlantic, IA, Kendal Furne, Wesley (Diane) Furne and Craig (Robin) Furne all of Denison, IA; sisters, Marla Juhl of Manning, IA, Leana (Jerry) Jensen of Des Moines, IA and Carla and Larry of Harlan, IA; and a close family friend, Patricia McCabe Clark and her son, Liam of Kansas City, MO.

Visitation is from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. A time for lunch and visiting will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.

Burial will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa, at a later date.
