Elimar Frederick Sudmann, of Walnut, Iowa, passed away January 9, 2021, at the age of 85. He was born July 19, 1935, in McClelland, Iowa, to Herman and Louisa Wurdeman Sudmann. Elimar loved life, he would tell you over and over again about being a proud son of emigrants, and how he loved being an American.
Elimar farmed and fed cattle for almost his entire life until his retirement in 1996. He stayed active in the farming world until his death. During his retirement, he operated his "Village Blacksmith" antique store in Walnut, where he enjoyed working seven days a week. He loved to visit about antiques with all the people who walked into his shop from around the country. Eli was one person who was always on the move and could not sit around in the evenings. He enjoyed driving out to his farms and visiting with his family and friends every chance he could get.
Elimar was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Hertha (Miles) Dungan, and a brother who died in infancy.
He is survived by his three children, Scot (Jody Barlow) Sudmann, Julia (David) Stuetelberg, and Douglas (Joni) Sudmann; five grandchildren, Ryan (Sandy) Stuetelberg, Eric (Emily) Stuetelberg, Andrew (Katie) Sudmann, Tyler (Michael) Stuetelberg and Amanda (Patrick) Furrow, 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Kelly and Tammy Wise.
Open visitation with no family present will take place Friday, January 15, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA
A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021, at the Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery located in Treynor, IA.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 17, 2021. More information will follow for that.
Masks and social distancing are required to be in attendance.
Arrangements are being handled by the staff at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.
