Elwood Hansen

Elwood Dennis Clinton Hansen was born on September 30, 1947, in St. Paul, Nebraska, to Ronald Edwin Hansen, Sr. and Gladys Viola Irene Sonderup Hansen. He attended school in rural Nebraska until 1962 when his family moved to southwest Iowa. He attended school in Atlantic and Exira. Elwood was baptized in St. Paul, Nebraska, and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.

On June 19, 1978, he was united in marriage to Twila (Jeanie) Jean Willey Griffin at New Bethel Methodist Church in rural Guthrie County.

Elwood had a passion for many things in life. He farmed in the Brayton area, drove truck numerous miles, painted anything that he could get paint to stay on and loved his family unconditionally. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, fishing, gardening, his grandchildren and to tell lots of stories about life's encounters.

Surviving Elwood are his wife, Jeanie; son, Bryan Christopher Hansen of Wiota; two daughters, Rebecca Jean Dreager and husband Mike of Atlantic and Brenda Lea Gettler and husband Brad of Atlantic. Five grandchildren, Pvt. Clinton James Henry Hansen, Brett Richard Dreager, Alyson Mae Dreager, Veronica Lea Dawn Gettler and Cody Lee Thomas Gettler all of Atlantic. Two brothers, Maynard Hansen and wife Janet of Grant, NE and Lloyd Hansen of Lincoln, NE. Three sisters, Sylvia Schmitt and husband Alton, Lorraine Leach and husband Richard all of Kearney, NE and Elloise Hansen of Sacramento, CA. One sister-in-law, Margaret Hansen of Brayton. One uncle, LaVern Hansen of Phoenix, AZ; one aunt, Agnetha Pennington of Alhambra, CA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Preceding him in death were his son, Chad Everett Hansen; his parents, Ronald & Gladys Hansen; his in-laws, Jimmie & Irma Willey; his brother, Ronald Jr. Thomas Henry Hansen; his sister-in-law, Mary Hansen; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Rose Hansen.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial at a later date.
