Emery Reinier

October 4, 1948 — April 10, 2018

Emery James Reinier, born October 4, 1948, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Bernard Alfred Reinier and Elsie Lee Oler Reinier, passed away April 10, 2018, at Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 6 days.

Emery lived in Anita, Iowa, and attended Anita Community Schools. As a young man, he was a carrier for The Des Moines Register and worked at Krasne’s Super Market in Anita. He learned to drive a semi during a summer with his brother, Dan, driving for Allied Van Lines. In July of 1968, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. After boot camp in San Diego, he served a 21 month tour assigned to Motor Transport – Lima Battery, 4th Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Vietnam. He was assigned to the Da Nang area and later to Hill 55. After his tour, he came back stateside to Cherry Point, NC. He also served as a member of the Marine Corp Honor Guard. He returned to Anita and worked at Long’s Furniture Store, Farmers Co-op and then Iowa Star Silo.

Emery married Linda Sullivan in 1973, and a daughter, Lodema Ann, was born to this union.

Emery then moved to Iowa City where he worked at K-Mart, Sheller-Globe, and as an apartment maintenance manager. He then began driving a semi with Roberts Dairy for the next 28 years, retiring in 2010. He moved to Atlantic in 2012 where he made his home.

Emery enjoyed many hobbies including: glass etching, traveling, music, classic movies, photography, hot air balloon classics, firearms, target shooting and various other collections. He treasured his trips to see his daughter and grandson in Colorado. Emery was an enthusiast of cars in many ways and treasured every car he owned.

He is survived by his daughter, Lodema Cullum Williams (Corey); grandson, Michael Henry Cullum; sisters: Edna Witzman (Dale), Elsie Wilkins (Roger), Karleen Evans and Pat Dyer; brothers: Dale Reinier, Brian Smith, Charlie Reinier and Robert Reinier; and many nieces and nephews.

Emery was preceded in death by parents: mother, Elsie Bailey; stepfather, Kermit Bailey; father, Bernard Reinier; and half-brothers: Jim and Dan Reinier.

Visitation with family will be from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., with a memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.
