Eric John Christensen, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at his home outside of Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 55. Eric was born in Harlan, IA, on Thursday, December 11, 1969, a son of Burdette and Margaret (Lamme) Christensen. Eric lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication to family and friends.
Eric graduated from Audubon High School in 1988 and furthered his education at Iowa Lakes Community College (Farm Management), Iowa Western Community College (Construction Trades), and Des Moines Area Community College (Wind Turbine Technology). He was passionately engaged in agriculture and construction, working with M&S Framing, Klein Construction, and Siemens-Gamesa Renewable Energy since March 2011.
Eric was a man of many interests, a true old soul with a heart rooted in the early 1900s prairie western life. He found joy in line dancing and two-stepping with his wife, Carla, and was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Dolphins. His love for skiing, camping, fishing, farming, and attending machinery and livestock auctions were well-known to those close to him. Eric also cherished spending time with his dog, Molly, as well as appreciating Western films with stars like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He had a youthful love for dirt bikes and motorcycles and indulged in listening to music, going to the theatre for STAR WARS and Indiana Jones movies, and embarking on vacation adventures.
Eric is survived by his loving wife, Carla; Children, Morgan (and fiancée Dara Cleveland), Connor, Braeden, and Greyson; His Mother, Margaret Christensen; Sisters, Karen Christensen of Bellevue, NE, and Kathie (Kevin) Austin of Williamsburg, MO; His Sisters-in-laws Cindy Rustvold, Rene Rustvold of Audubon, Jana Rustvold of Kansas City, MO, and Lindsey (Ryan) Venteicher of Shawnee, KS; His nephews and nieces; Jonathan & Jacob Austin, Melissa Olberding, Whitney Rustvold, Stacy (Dave) Fischer, Bennett & Jameson Burnside, Taryn & Tenley Venteicher, Luna & Harris Fischer.
Eric was preceded in death by his father, Burdette Christensen; His Father and Mother-in-law, Harold & Loretta Rustvold; and his brothers-in-law Phillip and Brian Rustvold.
Eric's legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will forever be remembered by all who knew him. His adventurous spirit and warm soul have left an indelible imprint on the hearts of many, creating memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the St. Patrick's Parish Center in Audubon on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Christensen Family and will be designated at a later date in memory of Eric. They may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 201, Audubon, IA.
