Estelle Caroline Rose

March 1, 1913 — January 20, 2016

Estelle Caroline Rose, the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth (Hanson) Hansen, was born March 1, 1913, at her parents’ home south of Exira, Iowa near the tree in the middle of the road and died January 20, 2016, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 102 years, 10 months, and 19 days.
Estelle was baptized at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa. She attended Audubon County rural school near Exira, Iowa.
On June 19, 1929, she was united in marriage to Henry A. Rose in Greenfield, Iowa. Five children Vernon A., Donald R. Marvin K., Judy E. and Barbara D. were born to this union. They lived in Anita, Iowa for a short time before moving to live on and operate the Rose family farm. In 1934 they moved to Chicago, Illinois for a few years then in 1939 they returned and purchased the farm south of Audubon. They grew row crops and raised livestock. During this time Estelle helped Henry farm and she also took care of the children. They operated the farm until 1950 when they moved into Audubon. In the early 1960’s Aunt Lena and her daughter Gladys moved in with Henry, Estelle and family. Estelle became their care giver until they moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa. Henry became ill and Estelle cared for him until his death on April 12, 1988. Estelle lived in her home until she moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in June of 2007. She enjoyed the many activities at the Friendship Home, especially putting together jig-saw puzzles until the wee hours of the morning. Estelle always looked forward to the visits from her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Estelle was preceded in death by her husband Henry A. Rose; her sons Vernon A. and wife Raquel Rose, Donald R. Rose, and her daughter-in-law Sally Rose; her parents; her two infant brothers; and her other brothers and sisters Art Hansen, Margaret Nelson, Mabel Bednar, Kathryn Krause, M. Marie Linch, Viola Winther, and Don Hansen
Survivors include her children Marvin K. Rose and Judy E. and husband Charles Petersen all of Omaha, Nebraska, and Barbara D. and husband David Abildtrup of Creston, Iowa; her daughter-in-law Wanda Rose of Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren; Patricia (Bill) Volker of Bloomington, Illinois, Edward (Sue) Rose of Carlinville, Illinois, Robert (Ellen) Rose of Alton, Illinois, Jodi Rose (friend Boone), of Omaha, Nebraska, Lisa (Ned) Porter of Fremont, Nebraska, Debra (Ken) Jeanneret of Omaha, Nebraska, David (Maureen) Rose Pam Cronkhite of Omaha, Nebraska, Melissa (Mike) Newcomer of Bennington, Nebraska, Mark (Tina) Petersen of Omaha, Nebraska, Sara (Bill) Bolinger, Scott (Niki) Abildtrup, and Brad Abildtrup all of Creston, Iowa; her 17 great grandchildren; 4 great great granddaughters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be David Abildtrup, Bill Bolinger, Scott Abildtrup, Mike Newcomer, Brad Abildtrup, and Mark Petersen. The family will meet with friends from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
