Eugene Fischer

Eugene Henry “Gene” Fischer, 88, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Born June 1, 1938 in Stillwater, Minnesota, he was the son of Eugene Karl and Magdalena (Krumrein) Fischer. Gene graduated from Stillwater High School and Macalester College, and worked as Manager in retail; JCPenney and Pamida throughout his long career.

He married Patricia Ann Lewis on November 5, 1960 in Minneapolis Minnesota, and they made their home in St. Louis, Missouri before moving to Atlantic in 1991.

In addition to his wife Pat, he is survived by his daughters Denise (Duke) Eldridge of Peabody, KS, and Carrie (Jim) Kozlowski of St. Louis; grandchildren Joel Wheeler, and Daniel (Paige) Wheeler, Chelsea (Alexei) Ondrick, Gretchen Evans, Annaliese Fischer-Lodike, Christian (Carolyn) Fischer-Lodike, Rebekah (Rene) Bernal, Joshua Kozlowski, Josiah Kozlowski, Providence Kozlowski; great-grandchildren Max & Liam Evans, Nora & Rya Fischer-Lodike, Zane & Quin Bernal, Ben Kozlowski, and Major Wheeler. Sister Barbara Burke, Hudson Wisconsin. Was preceded by a son, Brad Lee Fischer.

Gene was raised in Stillwater, Minnesota. He worked in the family bakery, before heading off to college. One summer while home he met Pat on a blind date, soon after they were married. The family moved to several different cities while Gene was in management with JCPenney's. He later joined Pamida, this brought him and Pat to Iowa. Family was the highest priority. He stayed current on technological advancements, messenger, texting and attempted Facetime to stay connected with the grandchildren. Many were the phone calls or road trips to support everyone's adventures. Locally Gene enjoyed serving the community through the Chamber and being an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, August 03, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Atlantic, IA, with Rev. Lauri Boysen officiating the service. A luncheon will take place following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

A public visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Interment will be held at Salem Cemetery in Stillwater, MN.
