Evelyn Mae Fay, 91, of Knoxville, Iowa, and formerly of Anita and Adair, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Westridge Nursing Home in Knoxville, Iowa.
She was born March 20, 1925, in Exira, Iowa, to John and Gladys (Smith) Toft. Evelyn attended school in Exira and graduated from Exira High School in 1942. She worked at the Exchange State Bank in Exira for eight and a half years until she got married. Evelyn married Bernard E. Fay on September 23, 1951, in Exira, Iowa. She moved to Bernard's farm near Anita after the wedding. They lived in the Adair and Anita areas their entire married lives until they moved to Knoxville, Iowa, in 2013 to be near their son.
Evelyn was a member of the Oakridge Club, Kitchen Klatter Klub, Diet Club, Westminster Auxiliary, and the First Presbyterian Church in Adair.
Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her children and all of her family, and attending her grandchildren's activities. Evelyn enjoyed cooking and sewing for her family, cake decorating, babysitting for her grandchildren, great niece, and others; and playing the piano.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her husband, Bernard E. Fay; her parents, John and Gladys Toft; sister, Lucile and her husband, Speck Fay; brother-in-law, Marcus Fay and his wife, Ila (Rochholz) Fay.
Surviving Evelyn are her children, Susan (David) Leatherman and Carolyn Fay all of Des Moines, IA and Daniel (Sheila) Fay of Knoxville, IA; grandchildren, Ryan (Lisa) Leatherman of Honolulu, HI, John Leatherman of St. Paul, MN, Claire Fay and Anna Fay of Knoxville, IA; great-grandchildren, Stephen, Abby, Bethany and Mia Evelyn Leatherman of Honolulu, HI; brother, John (Mary) Toft of White Haven, PA; beloved nephew, Peter (DeElta) Fay of Adair, IA and their daughter, Tiffany of Waco, TX; as well as other cherished nieces and nephews from out of state.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church in Adair, Iowa with burial in the Sunnyhill Cemetery, Adair.
In lieu of flowers, any memorials received will be dispersed by the family to organizations chosen by Evelyn.
