Frances Christensen

Funeral services for Frances Marie Christensen, 91, of Anita, Iowa, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita with Rev. Ted Weishaupt officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation. Family will meet privately at Frances' home.


Frances passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2011, at her home.


The daughter of Willie and Erie Briles, Frances was born in Prescott, Iowa, on May 7, 1920. She attended school in Atlantic.


She married Arlo Christensen November 23, 1938, in Atlantic. They farmed near Anita. Frances worked at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Anita and she and Arlo owned and operated the Anita Café for several years.


Frances was a lifetime member of the Anita American Legion Auxiliary and served as president. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.


Surviving are 4 daughters, Margaret (Tom) Marnin, Mardyll Fries, Mary Lou (Larry) Phillips, and Marlene Strauss; a son, David Christensen and his special friend, Susie. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.


Preceding Frances in death were her husband, Arlo; a son, Arlo Jr.; her parents; 3 sons-in-law, Dennis, Marvin and Jerry; 3 sisters; a brother; a granddaughter, Vicki; and 2 great-grandchildren, Mason and Marlynn.
